L2TP for Ubuntu

  1. First, click on 'dash home' and then search for and run the terminal. (For shortcut key, press CTRL+ALT+T)
  2. Run the command: sudo apt-get install openswan xl2tpd
  3. Select 'No' if the program requires to install the certificate.
  4. Then add the L2TP/IPSec application repository.
  5. Next, update the repositories and install the l2tp-ipsec-vpn application:
  6. Choose Yes if the confirmation prompt.
  7. Click on "Dash home", run the "L2TP Ipsec VPN Applet".
    This will create an icon on your top panel with two computers. Click on that icon and choose "Edit Connections...". Provide your Ubuntu user password and click "OK".
  8. The 'VPN Connections' window will appear.

    Click the "Add..." button.
    Enter the desired "Connection name" (like SwordVPN) and click "OK".

  9. The connection is now created. Select it and click 'Edit...'.
  10. Now choose the 'PPP' tab.
  11. Make sure that the box unchecked
  12. Click on connection icon in the top corner to manage your connection -connect and disconnect.
  13. Wait for the confirmation if the connection is success.


If you have successfully connected but still have a problem with access to the resource, you can also try to change your DNS addresses.
